Aubrey Plaza was one of the Hot Searches today at www.filmclips.be
Aubrey Plaza didn't say much during her brief trip to the stage at Sunday night's 2013 MTV Movie Awards. When Will Ferrell asked if she was okay as the barefoot "Parks and Recreation" star tried to snag his Comedic Genius Award, Plaza just looked at him blankly.
Online commenters immediately dubbed her intrusion an example of "doing a Kanye," in reference to the Kanye West's legendary interruption of Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
And Plaza fanned those flames by sending out a late night tweet that read, "Thanks for the advice @kanyewest went better than planned! #mtvmovieawards #chrisbosh #thesecret."
For his part, Ferrell took the joke in stride. "Aubrey Plaza, everyone," he laughed after the actress went back to her seat. "Just like we rehearsed it. Perfect, it was perfect. Not too long, not too short. Right on the money."
Backstage, Ferrell told MTV News that it seemed like Plaza had something to say to him, but he was unclear what it was. "I think she wanted to tell me something important, but there was no message," he said. "It was just a lot of hot liquor breath. And then ... and a little bit of sweat. And then she ran away. But the ship sailed on."
While the "Anchorman" star was making the A-listers in the room LOL with his speech, the "Parks and Recreation" star — with the name of her August film "The To Do List" scrawled across her chest — jumped onstage and tried to wrestle the statue out of his hand. While it seemed like it may have been a gag, MTV News can confirm that the moment was anything but planned.
Plaza wasn't supposed to join the funnyman at all, and the whole back-and-forth was unscripted. Shortly after she interrupted the actor's big moment, she was asked to leave the show by producers.
Fans began to immediately react to the stunt, comparing her interruption to the famed Kanye West/Taylor Swift moment from the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, when Yeezy interrupted Swift's speech.
Plaza began her career as an intern. After performing improv and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater, she appeared in the Web series The Jeannie Tate Show. Aubrey would later appear in films such as Funny People and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.
Plaza has said that she has had many internships and that she "was an intern for Samba Post-Its." One of her jobs was to "literally wallpaper a bathroom with Post-Its." She also worked as an NBC page.
Plaza starred in the online series The Jeannie Tate Show, and stars as Robin Gibney in ESPN's Mayne Street. She also appeared in the first episode of "Terrible Decisions with Ben Schwartz" on Funny or Die.
In the summer of 2012, Plaza earned her first starring role in a major film, alongside Mark Duplass, in the comedy, Safety Not Guaranteed. In the film, Plaza plays Darius, a jaded intern who answers a curious want ad "seeking a companion for a time travelling adventure". Gary Thompson of the Philadelphia Inquirer questions whether this role is out of her usual "pretty slacker" range but finds her performance "compelling".
At the 2013 MTV Movie Awards, Plaza walked onstage and attempted to wrest an award trophy from Will Ferrell during his acceptance speech; Ferrell integrated the interaction into his monologue as a planned moment, but the unscripted interruption led to Plaza's ejection from the event and to media discussion of it being a Kanye Wes
